Violeta Parra
Hi, today I want to talk about a chilean woman that I think is the greatest. Her name is Violeta Parra.
Violeta Parra started her career around 1937, she was a singer-songwriter, painter, sculptor and a ceramist beside other things. She was a very creative woman but she wasn’t taken very seriously in that time by the national music/art circle. One of the many achievements that she made in her career and history was to be the first latin american woman (individually) to expose at the Louvre in France. I think that the importance of her work, relapse into the fact that she had to make her own way to success, be who she is today for the cultural history of Chile. Her songs are full of feelings, sometimes deep feelings that caught your attention, for example “Maldigo al alto cielo” is the song that I most like because it’s like you can feel the pain that she has. It’s also very sad.
She unfortunately kill herself around 1967 in the place that she built to entertain people.
I think that I would like to ask her how did she wrote her songs, how she achieve that kind of authenticity. I would like to know those sort of things.
I enjoy very much her songs, I recommend to visit the Violeta Parra’s museum, actually is near from FAU.
That’s all, see you next week!
I also write about Violeta Parra, I think she is a very important women on chilean history
